I made a little top ver.2!

I saw a four-corner apron somewhere on Etsy, and thought it looked very cute. But since I have no use for aprons whatsoever, I thought that maybe I could make a similar dress, or top or something. And since I vowed to never ever again sew a dress for my older DD (hrm, you'll never guess what I'm making for her now..), I decided on a top instead. And as she liked the other top I made I thought I would use the same pattern for this one too. Here's what I ended up with
The "apron" is obviously a bit crooked.. I had a bit of a difficult time of figuring out how I should sew it on, so that's probably why it isn't completely straight. Still, it looks the way I had thought it would. :) Here's a closer pic
(Oh, and if anyone asks, the seam in the middle of the apron was a planned design effect, not the result of my mind not working properly.. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D )

I would have wanted to fasten the apron in the back with a button, but that would have made the top too tight, even now it's quite close-fitting. I added satin bands instead.
All-in-all, I'm very happy with this. :) So is the girl. See:

I made a little top!

And I think it's so cute! Apparently the girl likes it too, as she's actually wearing it, whee! Maybe I should just give up on sewing dresses for her, at least for a while, as she doesn't seem at all interested in wearing them. Maybe I'll stick to tops for a while.
I saw this top on Flickr, and wanted to make something similar. So I took some measurements (from a very unwilling child) and drew up a simple pattern. As I didn't want to make a direct copy of sparklecandace's top (not that I even own any doilies that I could use..) I decided to use some polka dot farbic on the top, just for fun. :) I'll definitely be making more of these, and I already know a few improvements that I'll make for the next one.
Oh, and the best thing about the top? It was super-fast and easy to make! What could be better than that? :)

Two FO's!

I finally got the hoodie for the babe sewn together, and all loose ends woven in, yay! :) It's amazing how long such a small project can take.. I just got a bit lazy in the end, I guess. Plus I strongly dislike seaming, as I might have mentioned before. :) And I had a bit of a problem with running out of yarn and having to figure out what to use instead If I'd have realized sooner that I didn't have enough of either yarn, I would have made the whole cardi striped.. Oh well, I think it's cute as is. :) And the babe doesn't seem to mind.
The white-green-pink is one of the first yarns that I dyed with Kool-Aid, must be way over a year since then. :) How quickly time flies by. I had planned on making socks with the yarn, but ended up making this instead, and I'm happy I did.

A wrap-over tunic-type-thingie. I modified the tunic I made for the babe, and made it into a wrap-over. I have a thing for wrap-overs lately, I wonder where that has come from? I totally love the fabric I used for the bodice, no surprise there, I also have a thing for skulls. :) I was going to sew short sleeves on this, but since the two different greens of the fabrics don't really match, I thought it would be better to leave it sleeveless after all. The next one will have sleeves. :) But apparently you can very well climb and go about your business in this tunic, and that's important in kiddie clothes.
Yes, the babe has learned how to climb up on chairs, and she has a bunch of bruises to prove it too. :( But this is how pleased she is when she has conqured that chair

I told my 7yo that I'd need to make him a small pouch for his cell phone, so that he doesn't need to carry it in his pocket. I asked him what color he would want it to be. The answer was "black, yellow and blue". And he even drew up a design for me, this is what his new mobile pouch should look like:
Uh-huh, riiiight.. And as you can see, he also wants hi name to be written on it. The boy is demanding..

Humm, I'm almost ashamed to admit this..

But I made another dress. I've wanted to make the babe a wrap-over dress of some sort, but haven't found a pattern that I like, so I modified the swirly dress (heavily, I might add) and made my own wrap-over. I'm quite happy with it.
Altho I did notice one mistake that I still have to correct, can you find it in the pic? :) It's barely noticable, but if you look closely, you might see it. Oh, and please pretend that you don't notice that it's wet, the babe wore it out on the wet terrace.

And just to prove I can sew other stuff too, not just dresses, I've made a tissue cozy for Melissa from The Speckled Pear.
I drew up the "pattern" for it myself, the fabric was requested by Melissa, I bought it on cottonblue's Etsy shop. This is one of those things that I never in a million years would have thought of making, if Melissa hadn't asked me too. I might sew up a few of these and put them up for sale on Etsy, you never know. :)

Surprise, I made another dress!

I wanted to try to modify the swirly dress a bit, leave out the swirly part and make a wrap-over of the bodice. I really had no idea what I was doing, but decided to go ahead and do it anyway. :) So I took the bodice pattern from the swirly dress and modified it so that I got a wrap-over instead, the back I left alone. And I made the skirt a bit slimmer, I really could have made it slimmer still. Oh well, maybe if I make one more of these I'll make some more mods. And another thin I need to remember for the next dress; don't make the bodice with double fabric, because the seams are really bulky in places the way it is now. Other than that I'm really happy with the result. :)
The babe wouldn't look at the camera, she kept looking at the TV, big bro was playing tennis (or something) on the Wii, and that was loads more interesting than posing for the camera. :) She also accessorized with a bottle that matched her dress, that she kept using as a phone. :D
If you look closely, you will notice that there is actually a real phone on the floor, by her feet. :) But the doll bottle was more fun to talk in to. The zipper gave me grief again, at first I sewed it on on the wrong side of the dress, and then it just wouldn't want to go on straight. Pah, zippers. I'll definitely be avoiding zippers for a long time to come.
